About SAKATA 3D Printer Filaments
From classrooms to the sets of Hollywood and everywhere between, our Plastic Filament is trusted and used by thousands of individuals from all walks of life. Our industry-leading tolerances , customer service, and product guarantee create an unmatched user experience and the reason why so many people trust Sakata 3D Filament in their 3D Printers.
Compatibility
One of our primary goals in selecting plastic is to ensure compatibility between 3D Printers. There are many 3D Printers in the market that use 3mm or 1.75mm Plastic Filament and you will find that our plastic gives you results that are comparable, or in most cases superior, to manufacturer-recommended filament. If you are unsure of what your printer accepts, you can see a partial list of compatible diameter and materials on our3D Printer Filament Compatibilitypost.
Diameters
Unless otherwise stated, our diameters / tolerances are as follows:
- 3mm- Nominal Diameter 2.88mm ±0.003"
- 1.75mm- Nominal Diameter 1.75mm ±0.003"
Colors & Properties
It is our goal to provide the greatest number of printing options in well organized sections. We have over 20 colors in production and many more in development. If you have questions or color requests, feel free todrop us a note.
Materials
ABS- ABS is a strong plastic with minor flexibility. It is commonly used in design and engineering industries, both professional and academic. ABS extrudes around 225C and requires a heated bed to eliminate warping.
PLA- Polylactic Acid (PLA) is a low warp, sweet smelling, bio-friendly plastic rapidly becoming the 3D Printing material of choice for homes and classrooms. PLA can produce sharp features and is a strong and rigid plastic. PLA extrudes at 180-220C depending on extruder design and print speed and can be printed without a heated print bed.

Weights
1 LB and less- For a while now we have experimented with carrying 1LB Coils and similar lesser weights for a few of our products. The goal was to provide a cheaper option for people wanting to experiment with different colors. The current plan however is to slowly discontinue this approach and instead work on providing sampler packs with much smaller lengths that will allow people to try out our different colors without committing to a large amount should they decide they prefer different colors. We are working on these packs and will introduce them soon. Some special application materials may be introduced or reintroduced in these smaller packages.
2 LB, 1KG (2.2LB)- Many in the industry, including ourselves, have offered 1KG (2.2LB) weights. In our continued efforts to provide better products, we are introducing a 2LB Weight and will be discontinuing our 1KG Weight. We can provide a 2LB weight at a lower per-pound price and offer more economical shipping compared to our previous 1KG spools. We are of course interested to hearfeedbackon this decision.
5 LB and 10 LB Coming Soon- We are working hard to make our largest variety of colors ever available in our 2LB options. Staggered with these new products will be 5 LB and 10 LB weights in some favorites such as black, white and silver. If you have an ongoing need for certain colors in higher weights, tell us and we will work with you.
Spools
Plastic Spools– Sakata 3D Plastic Filament is wound on an 8" diameter plastic spool with a 2" inner bore. You will find this to be a near perfect match to most existing spool holders and they are easily adapted to work with different filament feeding mechanisms. The height of the spool will be dependent on the weight and diameter chosen. We work to provide the thinnest spool possible for a given weight while still providing ample room on the edges to eliminate accidental unwinding.
Reusable Spools- In addition to the plastic spools that most of our filament is wound on, we also offer reusable laser cut spools. These spools fit with our remaining 1 LB coils and are compatible with most other 1LB coils in the industry.
Packaging
Our Plastic Filament comes vacuum sealed with desiccants. As the filament is sealed as soon as it is produced, the desiccant inside is mainly a precaution against a lost seal. The desiccants we provide along with our plastic will keep your filament dry even in the event that the vacuum is broken.
We're Flexible and Resourceful
Additive Manufacturing is a fast-paced and growing industry, if you have a particular 3D Printing need or wish we carried a product we don't;tell us. We are working hard to bring more elements of our product's life cycles under one roof. We see our ability to facilitate custom requests as an important facet of what we do and as a benefit to the 3D Printing industry as a whole.
